|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This cemetery was a part of a community located within the boundaries of Rancho Atascadero known as "Dove" (aka "Cashin", later "Eaglet", then "Paloma", and finally "Dove". Approximately 16 miles north of San Luis Obispo, CA. It was located on what is now the corner of El Camino Real and Santa Barbara Road. Most of the headstones of the graves in this cemetery had wooden crosses, rock or concrete headstones. The oldest date recorded is 1872 and the newest grave is dated 1903.
In 2004, land developers excavated the area and exhumed the remains of the small cemetery. Statistical Research Inc. of San Luis Obispo, CA has taken the task of identifying the 17 or more graves that were uncovered during the excavation. Only 2 headstones were present at that time. SRI and the families of these Dove internments are involved in the research and commemoration of those who were buried here.
