Cemetery notes and/or description:
St. Catherine's was established in 1947 by Father S. J. Deukewer from Sacred Heart Church in Moreauville. It was served as a mission church from Sacred Heart in the early years. Later in was served as a mission church from Rexmere by Father Ted Leliveld, who was the pastor at St. Michael's in Rexmere. After Father Ted's death in 1976, The priests from St. Peter's in Bordelonville served St. Catherine's. In the early 1980's the diocese closed St. Catherine's. No services are conducted there.
The cemetery is maintained by a group of local residents who have acquired the church building.
St. Catherine Catholic Church & Cemetery. Located on Highway 451 outside Big Bend. As you are driving from Bordelonville toward Hamburg, it is on the right side of the road. |
