Chiang Mai Thailand
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road
This cemetery was founded in 1898 as a land grant by King Chulalongkorn, to provide a place for the burial of foreigners living in Chiang Mai. It is still an active cemetery: over a quarter of the burials are 21st century interments, and there are several reserved plots.
The cemetery is about a 20-minute walk from the Holiday Inn (formerly the Sheraton), and a 140-baht taxi ride from the airport. It's right next to the golf course of the Chiangmai Gymkhana Club.
The cemetery also contains a memorial statue to Queen Victoria, a World War II memorial, and a chapel named the Wood Chapel.
