Cemetery notes and/or description: The small remnants of a cemetery which once was connected to a church can be found on Peewee Hill Road, going west from Mifflinville. On September 21, 1820, Michael Smith of Limestone Township, Northumberland county, granted a parcel of land consisting of one and one-half acres to the trustees of a "Religious Society." Michael, according to the deed, was the pastor who was granted the land for the purpose of erecting a house of worship. The building is long gone, but a few stones remain in the cemetery on the north side of Peewee Hill Road. They are in a wooded area, now traversed by power lines. The stones were moved a number of years ago by a previous owner of the surrounding farm, but he was stopped from using the parcel as a field. (Morning Press, Aug. 25, 1915) According to the article, over 100 persons were buried there. Only six stones remain that are readable. (From the Columbia Co. Historical & Genealogy Society) |
