|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Buck Cemetery, (aka East Christian Church, old Allen graveyard, Lawrenceburg) was abandoned and moved in the early 1880s. It was located between 25th and 28th Streets and Childress & Oakland Streets in Bethany. Most graves were moved to Miriam.
On May 9, 1962, Ed Slatten stated, "There were tombstones standing there in 1904 or 1905, as I cam to town to live with my Grandfather." Although most graves were moved, not all of them were and Hwy 69 was delayed when they hit graves during construction. Mr. Henderson also dug into a grave when he was digging a basement under his house in the 1940s at 28th and Oakland in Bethany.
This cemetery is where J.P. Hamilton, a young man that was the first person hung in Harrison County, was buried in an unmarked grave in November 1874. They buried him with his head to the north and his feet to the south, so he would be headed in the wrong direction come judgement day.
