Cemetery notes and/or description:
Ferrand Cemetery is a very old and abandoned family cemetery. The earliest known grave is that of Clementine Ferrand, who died in 1858, at 24 years of age. She was the daughter of Alfred and Louise (Landerneau) Ferrand. The latest was that of Ruben T. Braddock in 1915, a span of 57 years. A young woman was buried in the cemetery who had a glass viewing window in the top of her cast iron vault. According to local lore, treasure hunters broke the glass and tried to steal her jewelery. The vault was then exhumed by family members and moved to a cemetery in Monroe, LA. After much research, I believe the young woman to be Mary Louise Filhiol, who died in 1912 of consumption, at the age of 25 years and was reburied in St. Matthew Cemetery in Monroe, LA. She was a twin of Estelle Nancy Filhiol. The cemetery is located in Caldwell Parish at Corey, LA, on the banks of the Ouachita River, just off South Blankston Rd. The Filhiol and Ferrand home was located on the south side of the cemetery. It burned down at some time after the 1950s. --Shirley Burks Wells
