|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Godís Acre Cemetery is said to be the first cemetery in Vermilion County, started in 1822. Four soldiers from the War of 1812, and six from the Civil War are buried here. In the 1920ís, the cemetery was cleaned, repaired, and new stones were ordered for many of the early pioneers Ė along with a public road to the cemetery. Since then, the cemetery has been vandalized many times, and in the 1980ís (maybe 1990ís), because of a fatal accident at the RR crossing which leads to the cemetery, the road was closed. Since then, the road was re-opened, but now gated/locked at the railroad crossing, so the public can no longer drive back to the cemetery.
