St. Clair County
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Concordia Cemetery. Located in Section 28 of Stookey Township at the intersection of Illinois State Route 163 and Concordia Road. The original plot of ground was deeded on 24 Nov. 1845 to the "Trustees of the School and Meetinghouse Concordia" by Simon & Martha Peter. The cemetery is owned by Concordia United Church of Christ which is adjacent to the cemetery. This cemetery was also sometimes known as the Flickinger Cemetery after Pastor Wilhelm Flickinger who served as pastor here from 1855-1866. The oldest part of the cemetery is in the southwest part where the graves are in chronological order. Many tombstones have disappeared from this section. The oldest existing stone is for Jacob Lepere who died 11 April 1846. The death records of Concordia Church, which begin in 1851, contain information about most of those who are buried here.
