F.A. Oltmanns was born near Oldenburg, Niedersachsen,Germany, a son of Tiart Eden Oltmanns(an'arbieter' or worker in Jever), and Geske Janssen(no more information on his father or mother has been discovered at the time of this entry in 2012; there is an unconfirmed record of three older sisters and a brother)and immigrated from Amtsbrink, Stavenhagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin to Cleveland, Ohio in June 1868 with his wife (whom married on March 14, 1843 in Stavenhagen) Maria Friedericke Ludowike Driesel (or Triesel)(Jan 24, 1822 Germany - Oct 24, 1885 Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co.,Ohio)and five children. Sons Carl and Wilhelm and his twin girls had preceeded him by about a year. All German born, they were: (twins) Friedericke and Maria (Jul 28, 1843), Carl (Feb 2, 1845 - Mar 12, 1920), Wilhelm (William) (Dec 19, 1847 - Mar 24, 1883), Fred (Jun 6, 1849 - Mar 22, 1920), Louis (Oct 30, 1852 - Jun 5, 1905), Heinrich (Henry) (May 15, 1855 - Jan 22, 1908), Sophia (Jan 31, 1858 - Jul 18, 1938), Dorothea (Feb 22, 1861 - Nov 30, 1864), and Louisa (Jan 13, 1865 - Feb 6, 1935) He was a house painter by trade ('maler'in Wildberg, near Stavenhagen,Ger.) and lived longest on the near East Side at 100 Lyman St.,on what became E.41 between Payne and Superior Ave. Frederich became a naturalized citizen on Sep 23, 1873 along with his son Fred. He and his wife have separate granite headstones with raised letters of VATER and MUTTER on top with GEB and GEST names and dates on the front sides.
