Actress. The wife of JL Barrault, she received her baccalaureate in 1921 at Lycee Racine, where she won first prize for comedy. She also attended the Conservatoire Nationale d'Art Dramatique. She preferred preforming in the theater, but also appeared in more than 20 films, including Hélène (1936) Remorques (1941) Lumière d'été (Summer Light, 1943), The Longest Day (1962), and starred with Yves Montand in Le Diable par la queue (1968), and in La Mandarine (1972) and La Lumiere du Lac (1988). Renaud acted at the Comedie Francaise for 26 years. Her first marriage was to playwright and leading actor, Charles Gribouval, he wrote and acted under the stage name Granval. Then she married stage and film actor Pierre Bertin. In 1940, she married actor-director Jean-Louis Barrault. As a couple, they acted together and appeared in numerous productions in both North and South America. In addition, they co-founded a number of theater companies, including the Compagnie Renaud-Barrault, a stage company. They appeared in Moliere's "Misanthrope," Jonson's "Volpone," Beaumarchais's "Marriage of Figaro" and Ionesco's "Pedestrian of the Air," among others. Renaud’s honors include: Commander of the Legion of Honour, a Grand Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters and was awarded the Medal of the City of Paris and the Grand Prix du Theatre.
