The land for the Wethersfield Cemetery was first owned by Joel S. Smith. He then conveyed the land to Job Cleveland and other trustees of School District No.5,
town of Wethersfield by deed bearing the date February 4, 1838 and recorded in the Clerk's Office of Genesee County, October 29, 1839 in Liber 53 of Deeds at Page 336. As years went by more land was deded to the cemetery.
The meeting of habitants of the town of Wethersfield, County of Wyoming, State of New York was held at the store of Dodge and Merrill situated in the above named place to form an association for the purpose of procuring and holding lands to be used exclusively for a cemetery or place for burial of the dead. The following named persons were present: L. Hood, V.D. Eastman, E.N. Lodge, Jameson Dodge, F. Merrill, E. Hamblin, Lewis French, T.A. Charles, William Hall and D. Doane. A motion resolved that an association be formed for cemetery purpose called the Wethersfield Cemetery Association. Following named persons were elected trustees for the association. Freedom Merritt appointed president, V.D. Eastman as vice president, Landon Hood as treasurer and Dan Doane as secretary.
It was resolved that the annual meeting for elections of trustees be held at School House District No. 5 in said town of Wethersfield, County of Wyoming, State of New York on the last Saturday of October of each year, dated at Wethersfield, October 31, 1857, that was the earliest know record of a meeting. The next known written record of a meeting was recorded October 30, 1911 in the secretaries book.
The cemetery was founded November 3, 1857 and incorporated July 14, 1858. Records are in the Deputy County Clerk's Office, Warsaw, Wyoming County, State of New York.
The earliest known burial from readings off a headstone was dated August 6, 1826 for a Sarah W. Charles. The oldest person buried was Rebecca Palmer Hall at 102 years, 4months and 14 days old in 1875. The youngest to be buried was Kyle Geising, 2 hours old, in 1980. The cemetery is well maintained and still active today.
