History provided by Heber History
This cemetery belonged to the Presbyterian Church of Fletcher.
The Church was originally called the Newton Presbyterian Church and was opened in the fall of 1837 by James Coe and Samuel Cleland. In 1880 the church had met every two weeks. The Sunday School had an average attendance of forty. The first congregation consisted of about 20 members. The church was brick and the property was estimated in 1880 to be worth about $4,500.00.
The Church closed its doors in 1974.
This cemetery is now inactive and the original Church on the property is now a residential dwelling. The property was originally sold with the land including the cemetery. When it was learned the new homeowner was going to mow down the cemetery it was halted by the township.
The cemetery fell into decline until 1995. The portion of the land of the cemetery was deeded by the 2nd owner to the Fletcher Cemetery Association.
Many of the tombstones for this cemetery were lost after the original sale of the church and the land.
The Cemetery Association does the maintenance of the cemetery but still considers them two different cemeteries.
There are no known cemetery records for the cemetery. They have long disappeared.
Per the cemetery trustee as of 10-Oct-2016 they have never changed the name of the cemetery from Fletcher Presbyterian Cemetery.
