The Carpenter family buried some members here after obtaining the land from the Baldwin family.
Also four other revolutionary soldiers, Adam Hunter, Lt. McCauley and two unknown privates are supposed to have been buried here after the Battle of Newton (Elmira).
Twelve Indians and 4 British Rangers that died at the Newtown Battle were also said to be buried here. They had been buried in Lowman and were exhumed at the time of the construction of the Chemung Branch Canal and moved to The Knoll.
