Argusville Cemetery is located in the hamlet of Argusville in Schoharie County. The property is partially in the Town of Sharon and partially in the town of Carlisle.
Before Argusville was called Argusville (a paean to The Albany Argus newspaper), it was named .
According to Roscoe's classic , Argusville was a dense forest in 1785 when John Malick and family settled there. Malick came from New Jersey, a thickly settled country, to this lone spot. Mrs. Malick came from a wealthy family, and was unused to labor, and much less to the privations of pioneer life...In 1788, Malick built a grist-mill upon the creek near his residence and for many years it was the only one between the Mohawk and West Kill.
This cemetery appears to be the final resting place of John Malick and his many descendants and their spouses. So, in a sense, it might be termed the Malick Family Cemetery.
The interments listed are the result of direct observation of the gravemarkers and some research. It's by no means a complete list of burials in Argusville Cemetery. There are numerous stones that are too faded to read.
More history of the Malick clan can be found in by Andrew D. Mellick. It's available for free -- online at google books.
