In the 1820 Henry County Census Milton Applegate is found with young wife and daughter next to a large Daniel Applegate family. He is next described in father Daniel Applegate's Revolutionary War pension application as John Applegate with 2 young children. It is believed that Rachel died about 1826.

In the 1830 Census for St Charles Co, Mo, Milton is found with new wife and 2 boys under 10 and one girl about 10 or 11. There is also one girl under 5 who could by new wife or by Rachel if she died during child birth. The older girl has been identified as Lucretia. The younger as Amanda.
