The funeral of Robert Yancey, a victim of the ill fated Boomer mine explosion, will be conducted tomorrow at 2:30 o'clock, at the home of the deceased's brother, W E Yancey, of Avis. Interment will follow in Hill Top cemetery.
The following appeared in yesterday's Charleston Mail, in reference to the victim:
"The story is told of Robert Yancey, one of the mines whose body was recovered from the mine yesterday, that makes of him a martyr for the comrades who had been left in the mine after the explosion. It is said he was one of the miners to make his escape, but when he had reached safety he remembered those who were left behind and hastened back in the hope that he would be able to lead them out at first.
Later a rescue party found him far back in the mine by a mine car where he had perished a victim of the poisonous fumes which spread through the entrances after the explosion. He had tied a wet handkerchief over his face but that precaution had not been sufficient to save him.
He perished, but it is said he reached some of the other miners and directed them to safety, himself remaining behind until it was too late to escape."
